Tactile Dreaming: Clay World of Devils and Gods

Oral Heritage, Subconscious, Handbuilding

2024/2025
70 ceramic pieces; catalogue

Tactile Dreaming introduces material listening sessions, which marry meditative activities and storytelling. During these sessions, participants close their eyes, play with clay and hear Lithuanian folkloric stories. Aetiological tales of devil and god having fun with clay are told aloud. Participants are encouraged to embrace the Intuitive, the Emotional and the Unknown. The intention of these therapeutic sessions is to shift focus away from accuracy, locigc and productivity; to question the notions of good en evil. Hands become a listening tool to re-tell stories and uncover innate sculptural expressions.

The exhibit provides a documentation of 3 workshop iterations. Clay sculptures represent the experience of participants, the catalogue of transcripts – emotional impressions.
