This Meditation on My Past is Your Future
By taking what has passed,
long ago or only yesterday,
moments
which enrich the memories with poignant feeling,
pleasant or burdensome,
I reward myself
with an overview of
a palette of my emotion.
These moments were precious,
I did not shy away to put them through the lens.
The flow of a river,
a curtain dancing in the wind,
a spotlight blasting rage,
for other these might seem dull,
but are very dear to me.

All clips are composed in a chronological order with a sense of flow through the seasons.
This composition is then projected onto a sculpture made of 3 layers which filter the projection passing through. The transparent plexiglass sheets were melted into organic textures resembling that which induces a meditative gaze: moving water, curtain blowing in the wind, mountain humps, my lava lamp. The sculpture acts as a tool to abstract the video composition, specific imagery breaks down into visually engaging light patterns.
The audio remains unaltered. The combination of natural sound and background music curates the emotional journey. Music in the videos is original to the moments and was recorded in those moments. Songs are easily recognizable, they unlock very particular memories and represent the rhythm of that moment, therefore, they hold crucial emotional information. The impact of music is amplified in contrast with more silent episodes.
As the projection diffracts around the room and the sound of my memories secures Your attention, I hope You, as a visitor, enter a moment of meditation. The choice to abstract these images is my own method to admire and then let go. I hope my past will make You feel present, and that this presence will open up the space for what’s to come.
