Cooling Terracotta
With this project I explored the sound of material as a way to shape space. Since we are never in complete silence, sound has a constant pasive influence on us.
I took inspiration from architecture employing clay for it’s qualities and developed my own modular structure of cooling terracotta. The porosity of fired brick in combination with water provides not only air cooling, but also a sublte soundscape of the intricate stages of evaporative cooling.
The shape of the bricks allows them to be restacked and used inside and outside as a divider, cooler or sculptural element. The variating tones of terracotta, which were achieved by firing in various temperatures, gives a natural dinamic look.
