Cooling Terracotta
2022
Can the sound of material shape space? We are never in complete silence, sound has a constant passive influence on us.
I took inspiration from traditional clay architecture and translated it into a modular sculptural structure of evaporative cooling bricks.
The terracotta was textured and fired in low temperatures to increase porosity. The brick shape allows them to be restacked and used inside and outside as a divider, cooler or sculptural element. The variating tones of terracotta, which were achieved by firing in various temperatures, gives a natural dinamic look.
As water evaporates, the environment is cooled down. The absorption and release of water is audible – a sublte soundscape from intricate stages of evaporative cooling.
